(TruthAndLiberty.com) – On Wednesday Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) unveiled a new plan that would drop gas prices to $2 per gallon in 2025.

DeSantis, who is running in the 2024 Republican primary race has stated that if he wins the White House he is going to focus on bringing energy prices down. However, as the oil market is global it is not possible for presidential policies to have a big impact on gas prices, especially as private companies often choose whether or not to drill.

In a written statement DeSantis noted that as President he would place his attention on bringing down energy costs and gas prices. He added that he would “unleash American energy dominance” which would help bring down both gas prices and inflation rates.

The current average price per gallon of gasoline in the U.S. is around $3.88, with prices having increased in the last few weeks as Russia and Saudi Arabia have cut down oil supply.

While there were high expectations about DeSantis’ presidential campaign, he has so far not managed to gain enough traction after entering the Republican primary race. Former President Donald Trump continues to lead the GOP primary by a large margin according to all national polls.

Many in the Republican race are focusing on energy. DeSantis’ energy plan would reduce environmental and climate regulations while helping boost up fossil fuels. In a summary of his energy plan, DeSantis stated that from Day One he would focus on the development of infrastructure and pipelines and on gas and oil exploration. However, his plan did not include a detail plan on how he would achieve this.
