(TruthAndLiberty.com) – On Sunday during an appearance on MSNBC’s “The Mehdi Hasan Show,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., defended her previous call for a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas which erupted following the Palestinian militant group’s attack on Israel on Oct. 7.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y. argued that her comments about Israel committing war crimes were not meant to act as a defense for Hamas. In the interview when asked whether or not Israel had the right to defend itself, Ocasio-Cortez responded that “war crimes” was not a correct response.

She noted that one of the key things to consider about the correct conflict is the “asymmetry.” As she pointed out, the Palestinian people were being collectively punished because of the “horrific attacks” that Hamas had organized. She added that every day there was more information coming out about what had happened on Oct. 7th and that it was shocking to the human “conscience” to know what had occurred during the attacks.

However, as she pointed out, war crimes were not an “appropriate response for other war crimes.” She added that it was unacceptable to believe that the death of “1700 Palestinian children alone” was in any way making up for the violence that had occurred on October 7th. The lawmaker further accused Israel of having conducted an “indiscriminate bombing campaign” against Gaza and questioned whether these actions were effective.

As she pointed out, the question that people needed to be asked was “What price of innocent life is acceptable in terms of targeting Hamas?” She added that while every day they were receiving civilian death counts there were no reports thus far on the effectiveness of Israel’s campaign against Hamas.
