(TruthAndLiberty.com) – On Tuesday, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) appeared with former President Trump outside the Manhattan courthouse where Trump’s criminal case is taking place.

Johnson is the highest-ranking lawmaker to date to have joined Trump during his legal proceedings and in his statement outside he criticized the legal case against Trump arguing that this was “election interference. He added that prosecutors were attempting to block him from being on the campaign trail against President Biden in 2024.

The House Speaker pointed out that this is the fifth week that Trump has had to deal with this “sham” trial and that the prosecutors were doing everything within their power to ensure that Trump would not rejoin the campaign trail. He argued that this was something that everyone in the country was capable of seeing and that Trump was completely innocent of the charges against him.

Republican lawmakers have been rushing to Trump’s side as he continues to be required to attend the hush money trial in Manhattan. The trial is taking up the majority of the week, and several lawmakers attended the courthouse on Tuesday including Reps. Cory Mills (R-Fla.) and Byron Donalds (R-Fla.).  Monday Trump had been joined by Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-N.Y.) and Sens. JD Vance (R-Ohio) and Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), who had also expressed their support for Trump.

Johnson, who became the House Speaker late last year is the highest-ranking official to have joined Trump outside the courthouse since the start of the trial. His presence in New York showcased to the rest of the lower chamber Johnson’s support for Trump regardless of his ongoing legal issues.
