(TruthAndLiberty.com) – On Wednesday Merrick Garland, the Attorney General, clashed with House Republicans who had accused him of weaponizing the Department of Justice to carry out work in favor of Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden.

This was the first time that Garland had appeared before the House Judiciary Committee in two years. The Attorney General is currently tasked with overseeing two cases against former President Donald Trump and another case against Hunter Binde.

The committee’s GOP, led by chairman Jim Jordan suggested during the hearing that the Department of Justice had been targeting Trump while protecting President Biden’s family. In the opening statement, Jordan specifically noted that the Department had “both sides of the equation covered.”

However, Garland defended his department, which includes more than 115,000 employees. As he pointed out, the Justice Department was not tasked with doing the President’s, Congress’s, or anyone else’s bidding regarding who should face a criminal investigation. He added that he was not the president’s lawyer or the prosecutor of Congress. Instead, as he pointed out, the Department of Justice was meant to be working for the American people.

During the hearing many of the questions related to the allegations that the Department of Justice had interfered with the investigation into Hunter Biden. They questioned the allegations that the prosecutor in charge of the case did not have the required authority to press charges against Hunter Biden.

Louisiana Republican Rep. Mike Johnson asked Garland whether he had discussed the Biden investigation with anyone in the FBI, to which Garland stated that he did not recall but that he did not believe he ever had.
