(TruthAndLiberty.com) – On Monday, former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) pushed in The New York Times op-ed that the Supreme Court needed to hasten its efforts to make a ruling on whether or not former President Donald Trump should have complete immunity from any criminal prosecution. If the Supreme Court agrees that Trump should be given full immunity and thus not face any prosecution for his attempts to cover the 2020 presidential election which resulted in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack. The court is going to be hearing arguments relating to this case on Thursday.

Cheney, who had been the House committee leading the Jan. 6 investigations, pointed out that the federal election interference trial against former President Donald Trump needed to move forward before the November election, when the American people would get to choose if they wanted him to return to the White House in November.

In her piece, Cheney pointed out that if Trump is not tried this year then the public could end up never hearing important historical evidence regarding this case. She added that it could potentially mean that their system would never hold accountable the man who was responsible for the Jan. 6 Capitol attack.

Cheney also pointed out that her committee had done important work in collecting a lot of testimony relating to Trump’s efforts to remain in power after 2020, and that their proof had provided the Department of Justice with evidence that completed its investigation. Still, she argued that there would also be new evidence that would appear during the trial.
