(TruthAndLiberty.com) – On Saturday night during a speech to the Congressional Black Caucus in Washington, D.C., President Joe Biden stated that a potential government shutdown is the result of “extreme Republicans” who have not managed to reach a funding deal. He further claimed that political violence was also stemming from the same group.

During the CBC Foundation 52nd Annual Legislative Conference National Town Hall, both President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris delivered remarks. The Vice President in her speech focused on the importance of reproductive freedom and civil rights. She further noted that gun violence was currently the “number one cause of death” for American children, but rather than taking action to protect them, they were being obstructed by extremists.

She further slammed officials in Florida for intending to teach children about enslaved people having benefited from slavery. This was in regards to the new instruction guideline in Florida which requires that students be taught about the skills that slaves developed.

Biden in his speech focused on the division exhibited by some members of Congress who were willing to allow the government to shutdown. This is a reference to some Republican lawmakers who have shown that they will not support House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., deal that would help avoid a government shutdown after the end of September.

As Biden pointed out, only a few months earlier, he and McCarthy had reached a spending deal that would still manage to bring the deficit down by $1 trillion in the next decade. Still, there were some extreme Republicans who were unwilling to follow this deal and would prefer to have the American people pay the price for their refusal.
