(TruthAndLiberty.com) – Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in a recent appearance on CNN’s “State the Union” stated that he was hoping that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would be removed from his position.

During his interview on Sunday Sanders argued that this was an extremely “complex issue” and that the existence of a racist right-wing government in the country was making it worse. He added that what was positive is that a recent poll had shown that only 18 percent of Israeli people wanted Netanyahu to remain in office. He proceeded to say that he was hopeful they were going to “get rid of him” and that instead a new government would be put in place that would understand how severe the current situation was.

Sanders has spoken a lot about the need to prevent civilian deaths in the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. The war broke out after the Palestinian militant group which is in control of Gaza launched a surprise attack against Israel on Oct. 7. In response Israel launched a war against Hamas and proceeded to repeatedly bomb Gaza. However, Sanders has maintained that there had to be a more effective way of eliminating Hamas, which has been designated by the United States as a terrorist organization.

As the Senator pointed out there needed to be a better way than killing thousands of civilians, including children and women, and that they needed to push for the bombing to be paused in order for this disaster to be mitigated. He further pointed out that Netanyahu’s government effectively made a two-state solution impossible.
