( – GOP 2024 presidential candidate and Former VP Mike Pence in a recent interview on NBC News with host Chuck Todd stated that he did not understand why some Republican primary candidates so adamantly believed that former president Donald Trump would be convicted on federal charges following his indictment last week.

Trump is currently facing 37 federal charges relating to his alleged mishandling of sensitive documents and obstruction of Justice attempts after he left the White House in 2021.

In the interview Pence stated that he did not know why some Republican candidates were so sure that Trump would be “found guilty.” He added that all they currently know is the accusations brought forth against him, but that they did not have any information on what Trump’s defense will be or if the case will ever go to trial. As he pointed out the case might be “subject to a motion to dismiss” and that people had no way of knowing what the jury would decide in this case.

The full interview is set to air on NBC Sunday, but from the video clip of the interview already released, Pence appears to have been answering a question about whether or not he would pardon Trump.

On Tuesday, Trump pleaded not guilty to 37 federal charges in a Miami courtroom on Tuesday. He is the first President of The United States, either sitting or former, to be criminally charged in History.

Republican candidate and conservative entrepreneur Ramaswamy has not only stated that he would pardon Trump on the first day of his administration if he won, but has also called on other candidates to pledge to pardon Trump if they win.

Former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, also said she was “inclined in favor” of granting Trump a presidential pardon.
