(TruthAndLiberty.com) – During a New Year’s Eve televised performance on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest, Green Day, a punk band, infuriated supporters of former President Donald Trump by altering the lyrics to their popular song “American Idiot.”

The song’s original lyrics read “I’m not a part of a redneck agenda,” however lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong opted to change the lyrics for this performance to “I’m not a part of the MAGA agenda.” MAGA is an acronym for “Make America Great Again” the slogan that the former President had been mainly using during his 2016 presidential campaign, which he often still refers to.

“American Idiot” was originally released as a criticism of former President George W. Bush in 2004 following the Iraq war.

Many supporters of the former President took to social media to criticize the lyric change which ultimately resulted in Green Day trending on X, formerly known as Twitter, on the day after the performance was aired.

One person slammed the band stating that they were supporters of “corporate oligarchs” and the “death of the American Dream,” freedom, and “Liberty.”

A different user noted that they had lost all respect for the band, while another user stated that the band was dead to them following this.

The band had made a similar move in 2016 during a performance at the American Music Awards of the song Bang Bang, where they had once again referenced Trump by chanting “No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA.”

Trump is currently leading the GOP primary race for the party’s nomination in the 2024 presidential election.
