(TruthAndLiberty.com) – On Thursday the Dearborn police arrested one individual who was allegedly involved in an online threat made against Palestinian Americans in Detroit.

Issa Shahin, the Dearborn Chief of Police noted in a statement that the police had become aware of the threat that had been shared on social media after an anonymous tip. Following the tip on Wednesday, they conducted an investigation which led to the arrest of the individual on Thursday afternoon while they were in their residence. The suspect was arrested on “probable cause of using a computer or electronic device to commit a crime.”

Across the United States, there has been an increase in law enforcement’s efforts to ensure that citizens are protected following the recent heightening of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Dearborn, Michigan has the highest Muslim per capita population in the country. The chief of Police has noted that due to this they have increased police presence in many schools and places of worship in the city.

Shahin added that currently there is no information about any “additional credible threats” but that they were going to continue monitoring the situation in close contact with their law enforcement partners at every level to ensure the safety of the residents.

Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud, who was the first Muslim mayor to be elected in the city, released a statement on Thursday praising law enforcement for their quick action and celebrating the cultural diversity in the city. He added that in the last century, Detroit has been the home of people of many faiths who have developed a fellowship. He added that the actions of one individual were not going to break the connections between these groups.
