(TruthAndLiberty.com) – Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft has threatened that President Biden would be taken off the state’s ballot in response to the recent efforts by several states to disqualify former President Donald Trump from seeking a second term in the White House.
The U.S. Supreme Court is widely expected to rule on whether or not Trump is eligible to appear on the Republican primary ballot in Colorado. Previously the state Supreme Court had determined that under the 14th Amendment’s insurrection clause, Trump was not eligible to participate in the presidential election.
The high court has agreed with the earlier ruling of a lower court that had found that Trump had incited his supporters during the certification of the 2020 presidential election victory. The Colorado Supreme Court was the first court in the country to decide that the 14th Amendment’s Section 3 could be used to block a presidential candidate from appearing on the ballot.
A few days later the secretary of state from Maine made a similar decision stating that Trump needed to be removed from the state’s ballot.
Republican Secretary of State Ashcroft noted on Friday that these efforts against Trump were “disgraceful” and argued that they undermined the country’s democracy.
He added that he fully expects these decisions to be overturned by the Supreme Court, but that if it did not then Secretaries of State would step up to ensure that Biden would need to face the same legal standard as Trump. He argued that while he was not in favor of this path, it might be inevitable if the Supreme Court does not take action to stop this.
