(TruthAndLiberty.com) – California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) confirmed that he would be delaying the State of the State speech which was originally scheduled for Monday. His office announced the delay but did not provide a new date for the event to take place.

According to an email to The Hill, Newsom’s office is currently preparing to find a new date for the address that works for the legislature. It is further noted that his office is looking to discuss the direction that the state has taken, while also addressing the homelessness and mental health crisis as well as the budget cap.

Newsom is going to be delivering a speech that will provide greater clarity on these issues. The decision to postpone the address comes at a time when he is still pushing to change how mental health disorders are treated in the state. Proposition 1 currently has a small lead and Newsom is making an effort to correct ballots that were rejected.

In an email on Friday from Campaign for Democracy, Newsom’s federal PAC, it is noted that the ballot initiative was very close and that people’s decision could be the thing needed in order for more people to get off the streets and receive the necessary treatment or not.

Newsom, who is the state’s two-term leader, is also trying to deal with the state’s $68 billion budget deficit which has made it harder for people in the state to hire workers and buy goods.
