Donald Trump’s legal team recently handed over to the Department of Justice documents with classified markings that they state was found in Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

The folder with the classified markings had, according to the official, been discovered last month and was handed over to the Department of Justice voluntarily. The level of classification and the content of the folder is not yet clear.

The Justice Department in the past few months has been focused on its efforts to recover any documents with classified markings that were still in the possession of former Presidents and former Vice Presidents after a large number of classified documents were recovered from Trump’s estate.

Last August, the FBI raided Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate after a search warrant was issued. During their search, they recovered more than 100 documents. Since then the FBI has also recovered classified documents from President Biden’s home in Delaware and more recently from former Vice President Mike Pence’s Indiana home.

The voluntary search of Pence’s home lasted five hours and was brought on by the initial discovery of a “small number” of classified documents from Pence’s team. The original search had been the result of classified documents being found in President Biden’s former office in Washington, D.C., and his Delaware home.
