(TruthAndLiberty.com) – Special counsel Jack Smith has filed a motion opposing the previous request made by former President Donald Trump’s legal team to have Florida classified documents trial delayed, claiming that there was no reason for the court to delay until after the 2024 presidential election.

In the filing on Monday Smith argued that the issues that the defendant had brought up in the motion to warrant the “continuance they request.” However, as Smith claims in his 13-page filing, the defendant did not provide any credible justification for why the trial, which is currently scheduled to occur in seven months, should be further delayed.

Trump’s legal team has alleged that they have had “ongoing” issues with accessing the classified documents that are connected to this case. They have also pointed out that it is possible that the date of this trial was going to conflict with the Washington, D.C., case trial schedule. They further claimed in the motion that the trial schedule as it has currently been formed would require that the former President’s lawyers be at two places at once.

The motion was filed to U.S. District Court Judge Aileen Cannon. However, Smith’s prosecutors have claimed that Trump’s legal counselors were distorting the legal case. He further argued that the defendants make many allegations regarding the secure facilities and gaining access to the documents in question which are incorrect and misleading. He added that the date of the trial does need to be adjourned and that as it stands Trump’s motion should be denied.
