House Democrats who participated in the visit to the Washington, D.C. jail where rioters from Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack were being held, which was organized by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, stated that the visit showed them that the insurrectionists did not have any remorse over what they did.

The comments came after some Republicans criticized the conditions in which the rioters are held with many defendants being held without bail. During an interview, MSNBC’s “Deadline: White House” Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) stated that it was hard to see the same people who had hurt law enforcement officials and had tried to “overthrow” democracy with the Capitol attack.

Garcia added that the worst part was that “the Republicans rushed to them like they were celebrities” and were talking and interacting with these people who had “no remorse” for what they had done. He proceeded to state that defendants were treated “fairly” and had access to medical care 14/7. He also added that they were provided with tablets for entertainment and ways to communicate with their family.

He concluded that Greene had been “lying” about the conditions in the jail being poor.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) following the visit also stated that the inmates had access to phones and community rooms for hanging out. They were also provided with spaces that they could use in order to meet with their attorneys.

Crockett added that there was also an area in the jail in which inmates were allowed to explore areas they were interested in like law.
