(TruthAndLiberty.com) – Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in a recent interview said that a second Trump administration would be “the end of democracy.”

The Guardian released the interview on Sunday in which Sanders argued that if former President Donald Trump is reelected then it would mark the end of a “functional democracy.” As he pointed out this is something that Trump has made clear and that there was a lot of “bitterness” coming from Trump especially because he had to go through four indictments which left him feeling humiliated. This was something that he would take “out on his enemies.”

Sanders claimed that it was important to explain to voters what it would mean if the U.S. democracy collapsed. These statements echo a recent speech given by President Joe Biden, who argued that if Trump were to return to the U.S. presidency it would be a risk for the country’s democracy. Biden in his speech highlighted the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack to make his point about Trump and other GOP members who are following extremist ideas.

Biden on the anniversary of the Jan. 6 attack delivered a speech close to Valley Forge where he argued that the 2024 presidential campaign of Donald Trump was focused on the past and that for him to win back the White House and gain power he was willing to sacrifice democracy. Biden noted that the unfounded false claims made by Trump about the 2020 election being fraudulent would not be able to “stand up in court.”
