On Sunday, former FBI Director Comey predicted that it is possible that if Trump won the Republican nomination in 2024 he could accept his place as nominee while “wearing an ankle bracelet.” This prediction comes as the legal challenges that Trump is facing have grown.

Comey, during an episode on MSNBC with Psaki, stated that while he does not “want to” he could picture Trump winning the Republican nomination. He added that it is “this crazy world” that Trump has brought the country into, in which he might be “wearing an ankle bracelet” while going to accept his nomination by the GOP.

He proceeded to say that while if you attempted to put this in a show script you should be rejected, it is possible to have a president that is “potentially incarcerated” at the time of winning the presidential election.

Trump is currently facing a number of legal troubles and investigations. Apart from the criminal case in New York, for which he has already been indicted, there are also two Justice Department probes looking into him. Specifically, special counsel Jack Smith is overseeing the cases that relate to Trump’s role in the Capitol riot, on Jan. 6, 2021, and any possible mishandling of the classified documents found in his Mar-a-Lago estate. He is also facing an inquiry in Georgia about his attempt to overturn the state election results in 2020.  Finally, there is also a civil case in which he was found liable for sexual abuse and defaming writer E. Jean Carroll.

Trump has clarified that he does not intend on dropping out of the presidential race because of his legal troubles.
