(TruthAndLiberty.com) – On Sunday, Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) blasted former President Donald Trump over his reference to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol rioters that have been convicted for their actions on that day as “hostages.”

In an interview on NBC News’s “Meet the Press,” Ernst was asked whether the language that the former President was using bothered her. In response, she said that it does bother her as there are U.S. hostages who are actually being held against their will around the world. As she pointed out following the Oct. 7 attack on Israel by Hamas there were 250 people who had been taken as hostages, including a number of Americans.

She added that those hostages had been taken away almost 100 days ago and that terrorists are holding them in tunnels where they were being raped, tortured, and denied essential medication. She added that there was no comparison between the two situations as those Americans abroad were innocent and that they were just celebrating their religious holidays before being taken away by horrible terrorists. She noted that these were not equal terms and that “the hostages are hostages.”

Trump, who is leading the 2024 Republican primary race, has often referred to those who have been jailed for their actions on Jan. 6, 2021, as “hostages.” He has also called for their release and has noted that while some people referred to them as prisoners he referred to them as hostages. He has further maintained that President Biden could very easily choose to have those people released.
