(TruthAndLiberty.com) – Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to defend Sen. Katie Britt (R-Ala.) who he had claimed had been set up by Republican leadership to “fail.” This was in reference to Britt’s State of the Union response.

As he argued in the post, Britt, who had limited experience in delivering Senate speeches, had been thrown “to the wolves” by selecting her to deliver the response speech. He continued by pointing out that it was a mistake by the Republican leaders to have a freshman Senator deliver the rebuttal speech when they were well aware that she had not even delivered a Senate speech before.

Britt has been ridiculed for her awkward stance during the speech. Her performance had even been the focus of Saturday Night Live’s cold opening, where the Senator was portrayed by actress Scarlett Johansson.

Britt had been slammed for the speech where she had used a sexual violence story that dated from two decades ago in Mexico to attack President Biden. She defended her choice of the anachronistic story arguing that it was still symbolic of the issues of the border policy followed by the Biden administration. However, Roy argued that the issue had just been a case of not enough preparation from her party handlers.

As he claimed Britt had been left “without fact-checking” which would have helped ensure that she would not have made such an error during the speech. He pointed out that this was what allowed the radical progressive Democrats to focus on the mistake rather than paying attention to how their border policies were endangering the lives of Americans.
