(TruthAndLiberty.com) – The Democratic Socialists of America, which is backed by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., is forced to make big cuts in expenditures in order to remain solvent. While the group is cutting staff its leaders have maintained that this needed to be a “really favorable time for DSA.”

DSA National Political Committee Alex Pellitteri, Laura Wadlin, and Kristin Schall wrote on The Call that currently labor was facing many struggles, people were fighting to free Palestine, and there were many people, especially young people who were galvanized by the current events. They further pointed out how Biden’s “disastrous policy” had fueled the genocide in Gaza and has led to a situation where there is no independent alternative to the Democratic Party.

The DSA in the report has noted that for 2024 their projected income is $5 million while their expenses are $7 million. As the group points out this means that they will be required to come up with $2 million to be able to “break even.”

The rift between the Democratic party and the group came after the Oct. 7 attacks in Israel, following which the DSA had expressed support for Palestine and slammed Israel for their “apartheid regime.”

Zioness, a group of liberal Jews supporting Israel, founder and executive director Amanda Berman has argued that the DSA has turned radical in the “name of ‘justice’” which had resulted in them abandoning the progressive movement’s mission. Previously she had told the New York Post that following the Hamas attack on Israel, the DSA had focused on antisemitism which resulted in them digging themselves into a hole that they were not able to get out of.

The budget-cutting proposal sympathized with the organization’s staff and argued that even in socialist non-profit there were wage-earners who could turn out to be “vulnerable to exploitation.”
