(TruthAndLiberty.com) – Washington D.C. Judge Reggie Walton, who is from one of the districts where former President Donald Trump’s trials are set to take place, sparked controversy after he spoke about the gag order that has been placed on Trump during an interview.

Walton had previously overseen several Jan. 6 trials which are in a way connected to the trial that special counsel Jack Smith brought forward against the former president. On Thursday night during an interview with CNN, Walton, who was appointed by George W. Bush, noted that it was “disconcerting” that Trump was making comments about not only a judge but also his family.

This statement was made after Trump referred to New York Judge Juan Merchant’s daughter.

As Walton told CNN the comments are “particularly problematic” when they come out in the form of a threat and especially when those are directed to the family of a judge overseeing one of Trump’s cases.

Trump has repeatedly asked for Merchan to recuse himself, with the last time having been when Loren Merchan’s, the judge’s daughter, X account had allegedly surfaced. In the account there was a picture of Trump behind bars, however, it later turned out that this account was a hoax.

Walton had told CNN that the reason they were doing these jobs was because of their commitment to the rule of law. He added that the only way for the rule of law to effectively function is to have judges who are ready to carry out their duties without having to face any threats or possible physical harm.
