(TruthAndLiberty.com) – Former Representative Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) has issued a stern warning about the direction of the United States, particularly for those aged 50 and above. She believes that the nation is currently on a perilous path towards what she describes as a “sleepwalking into dictatorship,” and she contends that the re-election of former President Trump could potentially mark the end of the republic.

In her recently released book, “Oath and Honor: A Memoir and a Warning,” Cheney unflinchingly criticizes the modern Republican Party and delves deep into the harrowing events of January 6, 2021, when the Capitol was attacked. As the vice chair of the House select committee that investigated the insurrection, Cheney has a unique perspective on the dangers facing the nation.

Cheney points out that former President Trump has made his intentions clear, stating that it’s easy to foresee the steps he would take if he were to return to the White House. Trump, currently the front-runner for the 2024 GOP nomination, has openly threatened to “root out” his political adversaries, signaling a potentially sweeping overhaul of the federal government and the pursuit of criminal prosecutions against some of his opponents.

What Cheney emphasizes for those over 50 is that the traditional checks and balances in place may not be sufficient safeguards. She argues that the Republican Party in Congress has been significantly influenced by Trump, making it imperative to recognize the evolving political landscape.

Cheney’s public departure from Congress in the past year was driven by her principled stance against her own party’s support for Trump. She lost her primary in August 2022 to now-Representative Harriet Hageman (R-Wyo.) due to her outspoken criticism of Trump’s role in the insurrection. Cheney’s commitment to defending democracy led her to campaign for Democratic Michigan Representative Elissa Slotkin, advocating for a break from the usual political norms to safeguard the nation’s future.

In her book, Cheney provides insights into why she chose to stand alone against her party, risking her career, seat, and leadership position for what she believed was the right course of action. She has also taken up a position as a professor at the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics, further contributing to the political discourse.

Lastly, Cheney has not ruled out the possibility of a White House bid. In her view, it is crucial to elect leaders who will vigorously defend the integrity of election results, and she considers Trump to be the “single most dangerous threat we face.” For those over 50, Cheney’s message serves as a stark reminder of the importance of actively engaging in the democratic process to protect the nation’s future.
