(TruthAndLiberty.com) – Undocumented migrants in Chicago have also been calling for President Biden to allow longtime residents to have work permits.

The Biden administration announced in September that they would be providing work permits to thousands of immigrants from Venezuela who are already in the United States. Those immigrants were also granted deportation protections. The decision was made at a time when multiple U.S. cities, including New York City and Chicago, were struggling with handling the influx of migrants.

The decision was celebrated by many, however, migrants who have been in the United States for decades have been calling for this generosity to be extended.

Juana Arreguin, 52, told the Chicago Tribune that the administration should not forget that they also needed work permits.

Since August 2022 there have been at least 20,000 migrants who have reached Chicago. This has led to a lot of concerns over whether or not the city will be able to provide housing to all the migrants come winter.

Undocumented immigrants who have been living in the city for the last few years are also calling for the government to provide them with the same type of treatment. Erendira Rendon, a DACA recipient, pointed out that it was only fair for them to also receive work permits.

Last month, thousands of immigrants marched to the nation’s capital trying to get President Biden to provide work permits to the undocumented migrants in the United States. In October, around 270,000 people were coming from Venezuela, Nicaragua, Haiti, and Cuba applied to get legal status.
