(TruthAndLiberty.com) – A new Washington Post/ University of Maryland (Post-UMD) survey has found that around a third of U.S. adults believe that Joe Biden was not legitimately elected in the 2020 election.

The survey was specifically examining how views have evolved since the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack as the third anniversary of the attack is coming up. A similar poll had also been conducted in December 2021.

While in the 2021 poll, 69 percent of Americans asked had stated that Biden was the legitimately elected president, that percentage has now dropped to 62 percent. However, among Republicans in 2023, only 31 percent stated that Biden had been legitimately elected, while two years earlier 39 percent had held the same view.

A significant drop was also visible among Democrats, with 91 percent stating that he was legitimately elected. Two years earlier 94 percent had held the same belief. Finally, among independents the belief that Biden is legitimately elected was supported by 72 percent two years ago, and now by only 66 percent.

The Post in their findings pointed out that only around 30 percent of those who get their information from Fox News primarily believe that the election was legitimate.

Trump continues to be the frontrunner in the 2024 Republican presidential race despite the fact that he is currently facing four criminal indictments and 91 criminal charges. Two of these cases specifically deal with Trump’s attempts to remain in power after losing the 2020 presidential election. Trump has often maintained that the election was stolen from him and that he was the rightful winner despite multiple cases proving that is not the case.
