(TruthAndLiberty.com) – Nancy Pelosi, the House Speaker Emerita from California, openly criticized Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky for his endorsement of former President Trump, describing it as a “sad, professional tragedy.” Despite past instances where Pelosi and McConnell found common ground on various issues, Pelosi expressed disappointment in McConnell’s decision to support Trump. This comes particularly after the Senate nearly voted to convict Trump for his alleged involvement in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

During an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Pelosi reflected on the situation, noting the irony in McConnell’s endorsement. She highlighted the significant shift in McConnell’s stance, from being on the verge of convicting Trump to endorsing him, despite the former President’s controversial actions and their impact on the Capitol and the constitution.

The endorsement followed McConnell’s announcement that he would step down from his leadership role in the Senate GOP, marking the end of a lengthy period of silence between him and Trump, attributed to their previous disagreements. Pelosi underscored that McConnell had been fully aware of Trump’s culpability related to the Capitol attack and had even addressed it on the Senate floor, making his endorsement all the more perplexing.

Pelosi’s comments also come in the wake of former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley suspending her presidential campaign, leaving Trump as the likely GOP nominee. Haley, who had been Trump’s sole remaining competitor, has refrained from endorsing him, stating that he must work to earn the support of her followers. This development further consolidates Trump’s position within the GOP, amid ongoing debates and reactions from various political figures, including Pelosi’s critical view of McConnell’s surprising endorsement.
