(TruthAndLiberty.com) – On Sunday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union” defended fellow “Squad Member” Rep. Jamaal Bowman for pulling the fire alarm in a congressional office building. She originally attempted to claim that the alarm was pulled in a “moment of panic.”

As she stated this was before the possible government shut down and the exits of the building which are usually kept open had been closed.  This was when host Jake Tapper questioned whether this was why Bowman had pulled the fire alarm on Saturday afternoon at the same time as the stopgap spending bill vote which was essential for the government to not shut down.

Ocasio-Cortez did not proceed with her explanation after that question and instead stated that Bowman was in full cooperation with the U.S. Capitol Police and House administration to solve what she referred to as a “misunderstanding. Surveillance video from the incident shows Bowman in front of two closed doors pulling the fire alarm.

On Saturday night following the incident, Bowman put out a statement noting that he was “embarrassed to admit” his action and that he had mistakenly assumed that the doors would open if he pulled the alarm. He added that at the time he was trying to get the government to vote on the bill, not delay the voting process. He also apologized for any confusion caused by his action.

Ocasio-Cortez during her CNN appearance also moved from justifying Bowman’s behavior to attacking the GOP for looking to have Bowman expelled while “protecting” GOP Rep. George Santos. Santos is currently facing a federal indictment for money laundering.
