(TruthAndLiberty.com) – On Wednesday, Representative Matt Gaetz of Florida, a Republican, lodged a formal complaint with the Inspector General’s office of the U.S. Department of Justice. He is pointing fingers at Jack Smith, the special counsel, accusing him of attempting to sway the election process. Gaetz’s contention centers on Smith’s push for the Supreme Court to expedite their review of a legal defense posited by Donald Trump, the former President, regarding immunity.

In a statement released to the public, Gaetz criticized the ongoing scrutiny directed at Trump by both the Attorney General, Merrick Garland, and Special Counsel Smith, labeling it as biased and suggesting it lacks credibility with the American populace. He further argued that Smith’s eagerness to hasten the legal proceedings against Trump transgresses the established protocols of the Department of Justice as well as legal boundaries. According to Gaetz, Smith’s verbal statements and the written submissions made by his office to the Supreme Court reveal an unjust motive: to meddle in the forthcoming 2024 Presidential race unlawfully.

This complaint comes in the wake of Smith’s actions on February 14, where he advocated for the Supreme Court to dismiss any delays in the trial concerning Trump’s alleged involvement in election interference in 2020. This request was a counter to Trump’s legal team’s plea for an extension. At that juncture, the Supreme Court was deliberating on whether to consider the issue of a president’s immunity regarding actions taken while in office. It has since agreed to address this question, scheduling oral arguments for April 25.
