(TruthAndLiberty.com) – On Saturday, former President Donald Trump, who is the presumptive GOP candidate, compared himself to Nelson Mandela, the South African anti-apartheid icon. President Biden’s campaign team was quick to slam Trump for these comments.
Trump, who has been indicted four times on different criminal cases that could result in him ending up in jail, took to his social media platform Truth Social to once again speak up against the cases.
Specifically, Trump used his post to slam Judge Juan Merchan who is overseeing the hush money payment in New York, where Trump is accused of having attempted to conceal a payment he had made to adult film star Stormy Daniels in exchange for her silence regarding their alleged affair prior to the 2016 presidential election.
The trial is set to start on April 15 and previously Merchan had to impose a partial gag order on Trump in order to stop his frequent attacks against others involved in the case, and Merchan’s family members. Despite this in his post on Saturday Trump accused Merchan of having infringed his freedom of speech and First Amendment rights and argued that the judge had broken the law.
Trump continued by arguing that Merchan was looking to put him in the ‘clink’” for speaking out the truth. He added that it would be his honor to become a “Modern Day Nelson Mandela.”
Mandela had been imprisoned for 27 years after which time he had ended up serving as the president of South Africa.
This is not the first time that Trump has compared himself to Mandela, as he had done so previously during a 2023 rally when he had also drawn a comparison between himself and Jesus Christ.
