(TruthAndLiberty.com) – On Tuesday, New York Judge Juan Merchan issued a gag order which is going to block former President Donald Trump from making any remarks relating to court staff, jurors, prosecuted, and potential witnesses in the upcoming criminal trial.
Merchan in the order pointed out that ahead of the April 15 trial date, Trump has made a number of comments about the Judge and others involved in the case. As he pointed out, because of this behavior there is an increased risk of harm, which makes the need for such an order imminent.
Prosecutors had requested the gag order noting that Trump has a history of making remarks to the public that are inflammatory towards the people in the legal cases against him. The order also blocks Trump from making any public statements that are directed to those people who are involved in the criminal case. However, the one person who is not protected in this case is Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who Merchan points out is an elected official.
Last April, following Trump’s arraignment there were restrictions placed on Trump that blocked him from using any case evidence in order to attack witnesses. Trump’s campaign has not yet issued a response to the order.
The gag order relates to Trump’s trial on allegations of false documents being filed in connection to the hush money payment that Trump had allegedly made ahead of the 2016 presidential election in order to get adult film star Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about their affair. Trump’s lawyers recently called for the trial to be delayed after 200,000 pages of evidence connected to a previous federal investigation on the issue were handed over.
