(TruthAndLiberty.com) – On Friday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced the installation of marine barriers which will be a part of the attempt to block illegal immigrants from crossing into the United States through the southern border. This move has received a lot of criticism from groups on the left.
The installation of the marine barriers is going to start on the Rio Grande according to the tweets the governor published. Previously there had been an announcement about orange buoys being installed to block migrants from crossing the river. All of this action is included in Operation Lone Star, which is aimed at tackling the border crisis without the assistance of the federal government.
Operation Lone Star has been criticized by many as it also includes Abbott’s busing operations which have transported thousands of immigrants to sanctuary cities, including Chicago, New York City, and Washington, D.C.
A razor wire wall and border wall along the state’s border have also been set up following the Biden administration’s decision to block the construction of a federal border wall.
Steve McCraw, the Texas Department of Public Safety director, argued that with the new installations every time that immigrants choose to enter the water they will be at risk. This will help deter illegal immigrants from crossing into the country through the river.
According to the Washington Post, the border installation will also include a layer of webbing that is going to stretch the entire river preventing people from swimming underneath the barriers.
However, left-wing groups and environmental activists have been opposing the installation and are demonstrating near the river.
