(TruthAndLiberty.com) – On Friday the Biden administration on Friday released new guidelines that would help push for greater voter registration during the naturalization ceremonies of new U.S. citizens. However, many Republicans are concerned about the possible impact of this expanded access.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that their policy was going to be updated so as to “expand access to voter registration” during the ceremony that allows foreign nationals to become U.S. citizens. The new guidance would require that people be given access to information about voting points of contact and voter registration during the naturalization ceremonies.

It further notes that officials should have local or state government election offices present during the ceremonies so that they can distribute and collect applications for voter registrations. They further note that all of these efforts needed to be coordinated with “non-partisan, non-governmental organizations” in cases where local or state officials are not able to perform these tasks.

They add that the organizations used for these services would need to take the opportunity to make introductions with the candidates before the start of the naturalization ceremony. The agency further noted that the right to vote in federal elections is given to all those who have U.S. citizenship and that naturalized citizens are immediately given the right to register to vote in elections. This is a right that USCIS has been encouraging naturalized citizens to exercise and historically they have always provided following the ceremonies access to voter registration services to all new U.S. citizens.
