(TruthandLiberty.com) – Attorney General Merrick Garland slammed the GOP for spreading conspiracy theories and for having suggested that the Department of Justice has been involved in the conviction of former President Donald Trump by a New York jury.

During a House Judiciary Committee hearing Garland commented that there was a “long line of attacks” against the Department of Justice, including by Congress members who had argued that depending on the verdict in New York they would be withholding federal funding. Garland stated that these statements had come along with false claims that the Justice Department was in some way in control of a state trial jury and their verdict. He added that this conspiracy theory was attacking the judicial process.

The Congress GOP has slammed Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D) for the 34 charges that had been brought forward against former President Donald Trump. Trump had been found guilty by 12 jurors on all of the counts against him. The jurors had received the approval of Trump’s attorneys and prosecutors prior to the start of the trial.

Several lawmakers have slammed Trump in their attack on the justice system following the verdict. Apart from criticizing the Department of Justice, many have also tried to place the blame on President Joe Biden, even though the Justice Department and White House are completely independent from state prosecutors.

Some have also threatened that because of the verdict they would be withholding funding from the Department of Justice and have argued that the government needed to block funding from state prosecutors.

Trump’s former national security adviser John Bolton had argued last week that it was extremely dangerous to question the legal system’s integrity and that this was something that adversaries of the United States would be happy to see.
