Biden APPOINTS Dangerous Crony To Powerful Position
(TruthandLiberty.com) – Do Democrats have an infatuation with the labels disinformation and misinformation? On Wednesday, April 27, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas testified before the House Appropriations Subcommittee about the Biden administration’s creation of a Disinformation Governance Board. The news came just days after Twitter agreed to sell its platform to Elon Musk for $44 billion, and the billionaire said he intended to make Twitter a free speech platform.
Mayorkas, known to misinform the public, said the government created the governance board to address misinformation ahead of the 2022 midterm elections. It comes as political analysts expect Democrats to lose the House and possibly the Senate.
The news shook Conservatives, and questions swirled about the government’s role in deciding what qualifies as disinformation. Complicating matters, the Biden administration appointed Nina Jankowicz to lead the board. She has a questionable history of disseminating disinformation.
Who Is Nina Jankowicz?
Jankowicz was a global fellow at the nonpartisan Woodrow Wilson Center and a researcher of Russian disinformation. Yet, the researcher may have a problem disseminating her own disinformation, and it appears she’s a hard-core partisan.
In October 2020, the New York Post revealed Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, left a laptop behind at a Delaware computer shop. Ultimately, it ended up in the hands of the FBI, and sources have authenticated many details about Biden’s business dealings. The media and Big Tech censored the story, and Jankowicz cast doubt on the story’s legitimacy on social media.
On at least one other occasion, the New York Post said Jankowicz questioned whether the laptop belonged to Hunter Biden or the emails on the computer were legitimate. She even stated that the laptop was a Trump campaign product. Jankowicz praised Christopher Steele over his discredited dossier bashing former President Donald Trump to make matters worse.
More recently, Jankowicz expressed concerns about Musk’s takeover of Twitter and his commitment to free speech on the platform. She expressed concern that free speech absolutists might take over more platforms and wondered what that scenario would be like for marginalized communities without stating the underlying premise.
Will the Government Be the Arbiter of Truth?
As the news broke on Wednesday of Jankowicz’s appointment to the Constitutionally questionable board, questions swirled about the disinformation expert’s ability to remain objective in political debates and spot real disinformation.
Florida GOP congressional candidate Dr. Willie Montague asked whether there was anything more dystopian than a government-run Disinformation Governance Board. Fox News host Tucker Carlson said the new ministry of truth was tantamount to the announcement of the new Soviet America.
Perhaps the White House hinted this was coming months ago. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the administration was flagging posts it believed were problematic. White House communications director Kate Bedingfield said social media companies should be held accountable for what people post on their platforms.
Ultimately, the question will likely be whether the administration’s new truth board threatens the US Constitution. Should the government decide what qualifies as disinformation, and could it use the move as propaganda? Is the Biden administration about to enact state-sponsored censorship, and if so, how does this make our policies significantly different from Russia’s or China’s or Saudi Arabia’s?
Stay tuned. There are likely to be more questions and legal entanglements over this issue.
