(TruthandLiberty.com) – On Wednesday the White House dismissed the planned Republican border visit as nothing but a publicity stunt.
Ian Sams, a White House spokesperson stated that it was time for Republican lawmakers to spend time not on publicity stunts but rather on partisan solutions. He added that this is what President Biden is focusing on, which is why he is successful. He continued by saying that House Republicans should also join him to “strengthen our immigration system and fund border security.”
The statement was released as the House Oversight and Accountability Committee was preparing for the hearing of two chief patrol agents of the US Border Patrol. It also came one day before the congressional delegation led by Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was set to visit the U.S.-Mexico border.
Republican Reps. Juan Ciscomani (Ariz.), Lori Chavez-DeRemer (Ore.), Jen Kiggans (Va.), and Derrick Van Orden (Wis.), are set to join McCarthy on the trip which will include a briefing from the Border Patrol’s Tucson Sector and an aerial tour from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Republicans have repeatedly slammed the Biden administration for their handling of the U.S. border and the influx of illegal immigrants who have entered the country through the southern border.
Sams however noted that since Biden’s new regulations started the number of crossings has decreased dramatically. On Jan. 5 the administration announced that migrants from Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Haiti would be turned away if they tried to cross without having applied for asylum first.
