(TruthAndLiberty.com) – On Friday, New York Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was confronted by protestors during a visit to a migrant housing facility in her state.
Ocasio-Cortez has been the representative of New York’s 14th Congressional District since 2019 and was one of the many Democrats to have won her seat during the 2018 “blue wave.” Currently, she is one of the most progressive members of the House of Representatives and conservative protestors have often heckled her during her public appearances.
During her visit to Manhattan’s Roosevelt Hotel, along with Representatives Jerry Nadler, Adriano Espaillat, and Nydia Velázquez, the three came face to face with protestors. The Hotel is currently being used as one of the shelters that provide services to asylum-seeking migrants who have been reaching New York through the busing operations of many border states, such as Texas. New York City Mayor Eric Adams has claimed that so far over 111,000 asylum seekers have reached the city and that in order for all of them to have housing and shelter the city would need to spend over $12 billion in the next three fiscal years.
In the video from the event, protestors could be heard calling for securing the border, while also pushing for the migrants to be sent back and the border to be closed. According to an NBC News report the protesters had been so loud that the speeches of the Representatives were barely audible. Still, the report noted that Espaillat had stated that they wanted to see firsthand the “migration dynamic” of the U.S. and added that these were people who wanted to be able to work.
