Musk Just Started On Twitter And Liberals Are Already Making Demands

(TruthandLiberty.com) – The dust has barely settled after the board of Twitter agreed to sell the social media platform for $44 billion to billionaire Elon Musk, and some are already making demands. In the run-up to the sale, Musk said he wanted to purchase Twitter, make it a private company, and return free speech to the platform. UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned social media companies must be responsible and adhere to strict British censorship laws regardless of who owns what social media platforms.

The European Commission warned Musk any business operating in Europe must comply with its rules, whether the issue is autonomous driving cars or social media. The European Union recently threatened to overhaul the laws of the digital marketplace to include how Big Tech operates.

In addition, the UK has stringent censorship laws requiring social media platforms to remove content government officials determine to be illegal once they become aware of it. So, while Musk will have wide latitude to reinstate free speech protections in the US, his task might not be so easy in Europe. If Twitter doesn’t comply with UK and EU rules, it could face sanctions ranging from significant fines to a ban in Europe.
