(TruthAndLiberty.com) – On Tuesday evening, Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., crashed former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s CNN interview during the Republican National Committee.
McCarthy was telling anchor Kaitlan Collins during the interview on the convention floor that what they were seeing now was more unity within the Republican party. However, his interview was interrupted by Gaetz, who is one of McCarthy’s political opponents and the Republican who had pushed for the former speaker to be ousted from his position.
Gaetz had mocked McCarthy by getting in the frame and questioning whether McCarthy was speaking during the convention and if he was speaking tonight. McCarthy proceeded to ignore the GOP lawmaker and continued with the interview.
However, that did not stop Gaetz from continuing with his taunts as he told McCarthy that if he took to the stage at the RNC he was going to be “booed off.”
When asked on NBC News Now about the incident McCarthy argued that this behavior had fully shown who Gaetz is. He noted that four years ago there had been an ethics complaint about him having paid an underage girl and that he had then come to him to ask him to stop the House Ethics Committee from investigating the case.
He added that if he had to lose his position in order to uphold the law then so be it. McCarthy and Gaetz have a strained relationship, especially as Gaetz had been responsible for the motion that led to McCarthy’s ousting in October.
McCarthy was the first Speaker in U.S. history to be removed by such a vote and had only been removed because eight Republicans had joined all the Democrats against him.
