(TruthAndLiberty.com) – On Sunday, former President Donald Trump defended his supporters for the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot and referred to them as “warriors” during a rally in Nevada.
Trump argued that the Jan. 6 defendants were warriors and that more than that they were victims of what occurred. He added that all they were doing was protesting a rigged election. This was a repetition of Trump’s unfounded and false claims that the 2020 presidential election had been stolen from him through widespread voter fraud.
The former President also claimed that the rioters had been welcomed by the police into the Capitol and that they were even told to “go in.” He continued by referring to this as a setup and argued that it was a horrible thing.
Trump and his supporters have often tried to change the narrative of the Jan. 6 Capitol riots arguing that it was peaceful. However, as a result of the riot 140 officers had been injured, while five had passed away following the attack. One Capitol Police officer has even gone as far as to refer to the circumstances that day as a “war zone” and recounted how she spent hours in “hand-to-hand combat.”
In the past Trump had used similar remarks when talking about those who have been jailed in connection to the Jan. 6 attack. In November 2023 he started referring to them as hostages. In March he also claimed that if he wins back the White House, the first thing he will do is free up the January 6 “hostages” who had been imprisoned wrongfully.
