(TruthAndLiberty.com) – Former AG Bill Barr recently rebutted former President Trump’s claims that the special counsel’s investigation into his handling of sensitive documents was politically motivated, and claimed that the public would realize in time that the former President is culpable.
In an interview on CBS on Tuesday, Barr noted that over time people would realize that the Department of Justice’s probe was not a “witch hunt” and that in fact, they have been very careful when handling this investigation into the former President. He added that this entire case would not have gone anywhere if the classified documents had been returned by Trump originally, but instead, he chose to withhold these documents for a year and a half.
Special counsel Jack Smith is overseeing the Department of Justice’s probes into Trump, including the case relating to the classified documents retrieved by the FBI from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate following the former President’s continuous refusal to hand the documents over after he left the White House in 2021.
Despite everything Trump has repeatedly alleged that the investigations were a “witch hunt” and had frequently posted on his Truth Social account about the federal investigators. His most recent post against them came on Tuesday, only one day after Trump’s lawyers met with Smith and other Department of Justice officials. In the post, Trump stated that the “Marxists and Fascists in the DOJ & FBI” are trying to go after him with a vigor that has never before been seen in the U.S. He added that he had done “nothing wrong.”
