(TruthAndLiberty.com) – Sen. Tim Scott, who is believed to be on former President Donald Trump’s shortlist of possible vice presidential picks, directly dodged a question relating to whether he would try to get Trump to reconsider a federal abortion ban if he is selected as his running mate.

In April Trump stated that he would not be signing a federal abortion ban, even if the bill had passed through Congress. He added that abortion policy needed to be decided by each individual state.

Scott, who last year had launched a presidential campaign which he later withdrew from, had criticized Trump previously for claiming that he would not be backing a federal abortion ban at 15 weeks. However, when he had been asked on “Fox News Sunday” whether he was willing to fight Trump or if he would concede his position on the issue, Scott had avoided answering.

Rather than answering the weighted question Scott had opted to slam Senate Democrats for their approach to the issue, as he argued the Supreme Court had already made a ruling. He added that both the House Speaker and Trump have argued that this is going to continue being a state issue, which is an approach that is in alignment with the position of the Supreme Court. He added that they needed to ensure that they would allow the American people to see how extreme the position of the left was on this issue.

Scott added that the Republican voters wanted to see Trump leading the party and that they have embraced his position about abortion being left to the states.
