Former President Donald Trump recently announced his support for House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif) who is looking to become the House Speaker with the change in Congress. Trump also warned that those five Republican holdouts are currently “playing a very dangerous game.”
During an interview with Breitbart, Trump noted that McCarthy has worked hard and that is why he “deserves the shot.” He added that hopefully, he is going to manage to do a lot of good if he wins and that he is hopefully “going to do what everybody wants.”
The vote on McCarthy’s nomination is a little over two weeks away and currently, there are five Republican congressmen who have vocally opposed McCarthy’s bid to become the Speaker. These include Reps. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), Ralph Norman (R-S.C.), Matt Rosendale (R-Mont.), and Bob Good (R-Va.).
McCarthy on Friday said that all five continued to maintain their position despite ongoing conversations that the group has had. He also noted that most likely the group would stand down in time.
Trump told Breitbart that he had warned the congressmen about the consequences of their opposing McCarthy. He added that he was friendly with many of the members who were opposing McCarthy and that he had told them that they were “playing a very dangerous game.”
