(TruthandLiberty.com) – Former President Donald Trump defended the policy followed by his administration that had separated thousands of migrant families who had arrived at the southern border. He further claimed that the policy had also served as a deterrent for those considering illegally entering the country.
In an interview with Univision, Trump argued that people who would hear that their family was going to be separated would choose not to come to the United States with their family. He added that for a short period of time, they had used family separation, which was a policy that other administrations had also followed. However, as he argued the situation was slightly different with his administration, but family separation for a time.
Trump added that because of this policy, there were hundreds of thousands of people who chose not to come to the United States. As he pointed out, the majority of people, when they heard about something like family separation, would have a discussion and decide that it was better not to go into the country.
Trump also claimed that family separation was a practice that the Obama administration had also followed. However, regardless of the assertions made by Trump regarding this, this is a claim that has previously been debunked.
In 2018 the Trump administration launched a zero-tolerance policy against all those who attempted to illegally cross the border. It was at that time that hundreds of migrant children had been separated from their parents, and had to go through court proceedings.
