House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) has announced that he would be running for the next House majority leader position if the GOP wins the majority in the House. So far, the midterm election results suggest that they will manage to win a narrow majority.
In a letter sent to other GOP House members, Scalise said that the American people should have a House Representative that will deliver on the campaign promises made. He continued by writing that as the Majority leader he would make sure to fight and show that conservative ideas can be the solution to problems faced by families. He also wrote about how he has proven his ability to bring different GOP viewpoints together and has had legislative successes like the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 and the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement.
He also mentioned that he would help the GOP remain unified against President Biden’s American Rescue Plan and Inflation Reduction Act. In his position as a whip, he has been helping rally votes both in favor and against different legislations.
Scalise also wrote of his plans to utilize the House committees to turn the party’s agenda into legislative action. In terms of legislation, he also noted that it should be about quality over quantity. He also noted that he would make sure to keep an eye out on the administration and its failings.
Finally, he wrote that the American people are searching for the country to take a new direction and that he would be a proud member of this House Republican majority to deliver their conservative agenda.
