House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Sunday renewed his promise that once he becomes the Speaker in the next Congress he would remove Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.).
McCarthy reaffirmed his position on this while speaking on “Sunday Morning Futures” with host Maria Bartiromo on Fox News. He said that this was something he had originally promised two years ago and it was something that he fully intended to materialize.
The minority leader won his party’s nomination for Speaker last month, however, he had not yet been voted into that position. McCarthy has noted before that he views Schiff and the Democrats as having unchecked control over the Intel Committee which they are using in order to misinform the American party.
He added that going forward the GOP would also set out a number of other investigations and that the intel committee is “just the tip of the iceberg”.
McCarthy has also promised to remove both Democratic Reps. Eric Swalwell (Calif.) and Ilhan Omar (Minn.) from their committee posts if he wins the Speakership.
Last week Schiff responded to McCarthy by saying that he has succumbed to the extremism in his party in order to secure the necessary votes to win the position of Speaker. He has also added that McCarthy himself does not have an ideology which is why he is having a hard time securing the 218 votes required.
