(TruthAndLiberty.com) – House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi avoided endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic party’s next nominee on Sunday. This was after President Biden’s announcement that he would be dropping out of the presidential race and his endorsement of Harris.

Jeffries and Pelosi had previously both expressed concerns to the President about his reelection campaign, especially following his weak performance during the presidential debate. While both praised the President for his recent decision, neither decided to make any mention about who would be the next Democratic nominee or endorsing Harris for the upcoming election.

In a statement, Pelosi praised Biden for being a patriot who always placed the country above everything else. She added that his legacy of leadership and values will lead to him being considered one of the most consequential U.S. presidents in the country’s history.

Jeffries made a similar statement in which he listed off the President’s numerous achievements during his time in office. He noted that the United States was “a better place today” because of Biden’s leadership and this is something that they are grateful for.

On Sunday, Harris and Jeffries were also reported to have had a conversation.

Pelosi and Jeffries were not the only two to not endorse Harris immediately. Former President Barack Obama and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) also put out statements praising Biden which did not include any reference to Harris becoming the party’s next nominee. Some reports have noted that this is due to the Democrats taking things one day at a time and being uncertain of how to proceed in these uncharted waters.
