(TruthandLiberty.com) – On Monday, November 15, former Trump adviser Steve Bannon surrendered himself to the FBI. The Justice Department had charged him for ignoring subpoenas from the partisan House Select Committee investigating the January 6 riot. The committee wants Bannon to testify about his alleged role in helping create a “Stop the Steal” campaign that preceded the January 6 rally in Washington, DC.
Democrats and two anti-Trump Republican members of the committee believe Trump was responsible for the Capitol Hill riot on January 6 and appear intent on making their case.

Despite Bannon’s arrest, he remains defiant. He said he would never back down from the government, and they were taking on the wrong guy. Legal experts say the case against Bannon could be a long legal battle. It may even outlast the lifespan of the Select Committee if Republicans take control of the House after the 2022 midterm elections. In that case, the charges would become moot.
Democrats hope Bannon’s arrest will force other Trump officials to break from Trump’s demands that his former administration or campaign officials not speak with the committee. Recently, former Trump Chief of Staff Mark Meadows refused to appear before the committee as well. It’s not known whether the Justice Department will pursue charges against him.
The former president maintains executive privilege shields him and his staff and advisors from testifying or turning over evidence to the Select Committee. The case is making its way through the federal courts. Ultimately, the US Supreme Court could decide whether a former president can invoke executive privilege to protect documents from his time in office.
