The Department of Justice’s special counsel Jack Smith who is tasked with handling the investigation into the classified documents found in former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate has now subpoenaed more than two dozen people connected to the case. Several members of staff from Trump’s home have also been subpoenaed in connection to this case according to CNN.

Attorney General Merrick Garland first appointed Jack Smith to handle the case and oversee the Department of Justice’s Trump-related cases after former President Donald Trump announced in November that he would be running for President again.

The new subpoena includes restaurant servers and a housekeeper from Mar-a-Lago as well as the staff who could be seen transporting boxes into the storage room of the estate.

Trump’s attorneys and aides have also been subpoenaed and called to testify before the grand jury in this probe. On Thursday it was reported by the network that Margo Martin, a communication aide, is going to testify before the federal grand jury in Washington, D.C.

The case relates to the close to 300 classified documents that were recovered from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in August. Around 100 hundred of those documents were retrieved following a controversial FBI raid of the estate which was completed after Trump refused to comply with a subpoena that had been sent in order for all the classified documents to be returned to the National Archives.
