(TruthAndLiberty.com) – Following Saturday’s assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle stated that she would not be stepping down from her position.
On Saturday a gunman opened fire at the former President during a rally in Pennsylvania. The shooter who had been perched on a rooftop opened fire grazing Trump’s ear, killing an attendee while injuring two others. Following the incident there have been many questions that have emerged relating to the Secret Service as many have questioned why the shooter had been able to be in a position so close to Trump, less than 150 yards away, when shooting at the former President.
Many lawmakers and critics have argued that Cheatle needed to resign or be fired following the shooting. ABC’s Pierre Thomas had also stated that Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas claimed that he has “100 percent” confidence in the Secret Service even after the shooting.
In response, she argued that she appreciated the comments by Mayorkas and that they would continue being transparent and talking with people. When asked whether she intended on stepping down after the incident she argued that she did not.
During an interview that aired on Monday on ABC News’s “World News Tonight,” she told Thomas that she intended to stay in her position.
In relation to the shooting, she stated that his first reaction was to feel “shock and concern.” She added that the shooting should have never occurred and that it was unacceptable. She noted that this is something that should not be happening again.
