(TruthAndLiberty.com) – On Wednesday, Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) stated that he would prefer if both former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden left the presidential race and allowed new leadership to emerge for the two parties. The 76-year-old senator made this statement while talking with reporters after he announced that he would be retiring earlier that day.

As he said it would be a “great thing” if Biden and Trump stood aside and allowed for a new generation of leaders to emerge. He added that Biden had previously stated when he was running for the White House that he was going to act as a “transitional figure” and that now was the time for the transition. Romney proceeded to say that both parties would be better if those from the baby boom generation stood aside and allowed others to take over.

He proceeded to cite David Ignatius’s Washington Post column in which he called for Biden to not opt for a reelection bid.

Hours before Romney’s statements about the White House race he announced that at the end of 2024, he would be retiring and that he would not be trying to win a second term in office next year. He also argued that he did not want to continue serving into his 80s, especially when it would become harder for legislative items to go through.

Romney’s political career has spanned three decades and in 2012 he was the Republican presidential candidate against former President Obama.
