Republicans Targeted For Remaining Silent On Pelosi’s Attack

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) on Saturday criticized House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) for not making any statement after someone broke into Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) San Francisco home and attacked her husband, Paul Pelosi.

In a tweet, Ocasio-Cortez recounted how the previous year a GOP Congressman had shared a picture of himself killing her and that at the time while the House censured him, McCarthy had defended his actions.

She continued to write that someone with similar rhetoric to that man tried to “assassinate the Speaker and her spouse” and yet McCarthy had not said anything because that is the type of man he is.

Paul Pelosi was attacked while he was in his San Francisco home. The attack took place on Friday morning. According to the San Francisco Police Department’s Chief Bill Scott, those who were sent for the “well-being check” at the Pelosi property had seen Pelosi trying to stop the suspect who was holding a hammer. At some point, the suspect managed to gain control of the hammer and attack Pelosi with it.

Following the incident, Paul Pelosi had to undergo surgery for a fractured skull. He also had major injuries across his hands and right arm.

According to a source before the attack, the suspect had repeatedly asked, “Where is Nancy? Where is Nancy?”

McCarthy has not yet commented on or condemned the incident. Many other GOP members have already condemned the attack, one of them being Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).
